Stories Advent yesterday ...

I remember Advent filled odor and color: the shortbread a little drier than it was with Mom, full of flour hair, which were spread out the dough so thin that the shortbread fingers smashed in, or conversely, if they lacked coarsely always cooking inside.

I am very fortunate to have one of those moms who do not pass behind the children and let the cookies crumble, scissors cut askew, brushes take on too much paint no resume, no comment on the happiness of little fingers clumsy learners.

There were also chocolate truffles, specialty of my big sister, but we had the right, we, the small, make regular balls roll in unsweetened cocoa.

Ho, there were still those colorful paper decorations, these stars of David drawn with the aid of an equilateral triangle need to draw a first, then return to the right place and draw a second time, point downwards.

And throngs of children standing quietly by the hand, whose mother we traced the leader, and we cut their tongues and praying that the fragile hands do not break the unfolding, the folding fan not slip in misalignment dresses and bonnets pompom ..

And these snowflakes folded paper and cut we stuck to the windows. And folded in garlands of crepe paper or cut from a high ....

But my greatest happiness, even greater than the true tree that loses its needles or fake snow spray which sticks to the window and that there are still traces at Easter was the manger.
In truth, the nativity scene. There was one that the children of Cate Mom, bottles dressed Canson, I do not even know if we had had one for us in the lounge, but I remember the joy of watching these "large" and figurines oversized és , or you yet read the happiness of the fruits without the bubbles. There was that of "Pomme d'Api " or Holy Family skirted a modern family, families that I liked to swap babies, giving a bit of modernity to the infant Jesus, while that one or Stephen Lau rent joined the arms of Mary.
There was Mom's crib, to the fragile painted figurines of land, where, a year, Joseph left his beheaded up to a supernumerary Magi. Manger whose stable of lightweight wood fascinated me: real straw and covered with soft green moss, it seemed larger than life. Much later, my hands became more dressed we repainted the outside of the old nursery, abused by generations of curious children and adults nostalgic.
And this procession made fuzzy by the memory of objects that dresses up steam: nurseries ephemera, paper or plastic tape and transparent ball of light ... or a Mary remained detached from the base upside down, map Greeting glitter or paper cut gave depth to the barn, and where you saw off the Magi who put so long to walk the last meters to the child ...

Then there was my day care of young woman, then Mom, tiny jewels of earth or plastic, the size of miniature doll trying to push the walls of my apartment imp.

Then there was this cardboard box faded, made by Mom, Grandma forgiveness, a day of Advent when my Peas were tiny and a house and garden pocket offered the prospect of a real Christmas decoration and not crèchetimbre stamps and the tiny plastic Christmas tree that my daughters have taken place this year under the true fir, Grand, who will lose their spines shortly. In this box, Mom I passed the magic of Christmas past, my past ...

In this box, and a little child of color, a strand of yarn in excess of a girl in garter stitch, knit years ago by applied a girl, a chicken without feet, a donkey and an ox, which may under the pressure of clumsy hands doing the splits of the four legs: my crib, the one I left excited, year after year, its cardboard dust, early days of the Advent this Advent yesterday splashing, whenever this box spring, the joys of the past Advent today.

Sympathy Quotes Uncle

green and other colors

two weeks now that we know the results of municipal elections in Stuttgart and I have not even taken the time to take informed. After two days of counting (yes that long to count all the votes when you have a system too complicated). That said it was worth the wait, the results are quite funs ... And almost surprising. Stuttgart good because it's a bit a typical conservative town with rich people in big houses but not even blue hills, working at Porsche or Bosch, ride in a Mercedes, and going to the opera. So that the CDU is a good score and even is always ahead, it is not really surprising.

Except this time, no. The CDU is second. But who could have pass? The Social Democrats ? Nooooon you do not do ... These are the Greens , finally Grünen , which became number 1 in the municipal council. And thereby make the first capital of Stuttgart of Germany's Green Land. There were already a number of cities "green" in the corner, for example Fribourg (long I think) or Tübingen, but a capital, no, that's new.

sign dune ecological awareness of people? In fact not too ... The Greens are doing their best scores in the districts youth and / or students, but it does not happen in mind. In fact if they fare well, it (you've noticed the alliteration) apparently very large part due to (through?) Opposition to a major project Stuttgart 21 supported by the CDU and SPD, officially started the last 15 years and basically consists of replacing the station in Stuttgart (in terminal mode: trains should start in reverse order railway stations) by a passing train and underground . A big huge and expensive work for a good ten years. And many people do not like too much, either on principle or because the details of the project (new construction around the station, new plan train movements) they do not like really (roughly one will go faster at the airport, but the regional lines do not really come out all enhanced). The Greens have campaigned by promising a referendum on the subject, they have convinced a number of malcontents. And then eventually leads with 25.3%, 24.3 for the CDU and the SPD 17 o.

I promised you more colors ... Color topical puisuqe we are in the month of June and 40 years after the Stonewall riots (40 on Sunday to be exact). Birthday motivated Google, which celebrates the traditional month of gay pride events in his own way. Small demonstration by searching " gay" or "stonewall " ... It also works for " sf pride, but not for" Tales of the City "or" Matthew Mitcham "(but in the latter case anyway it is especially looking for images that is interesting ). I promised you full color, I kept that promise. I could also offer to admire one of the tables bizarre Musée d'Orsay, but it will be a next time.

I finished my last post, promising you how exliquer Stuttgarters do to put faces to the names of voters, I do not forget, you'll know everything soon. Promised.

Customise Bmx Bike Colours

Briefwahl

The June 7, he will spend a lot of things. In France, Mother's Day . In the EU, we will vote for the European Parliament (well some odd countries like Ireland have already voted before). And Stuttgart, there will be municipal elections .

And it's all very interesting ... As a citizen of the Union but from other countries resident in Stuttgart, I have the right to:
- vote for Parliament in my country of origin or, if I so request, Stuttgart (Note that no check will be done to know if I did not vote twice, once in France and once in Germany, but I am on my honor not to cheat)
- vote in municipal elections in Stuttgart.

Note that foreigners from countries not members of the European Union, even here and even residents who work for a very long time (even Nès here of foreign parents) may not have the right to vote (even if I have not necessarily followed). Anyway I'm super special :-)

And these elections I'll talk to you. Before returning to France on June 7, I was annoyed because I thought gee, I could not take the opportunity to vote here. And I do not really see that I could reasonably give proxy here. But the Germans have planned everything, including voting and no correspondence. It's simple: you get one day a paper in the mail that says you can vote, and if you return it by checking the appropriate box, you send the documents to vote by mail. Full of beautiful papers I am going to present. It'll be passing the opportunity to discover how walking the municipal elections here.

What you get when you want to vote by mail is a large envelope with lots of things inside. Including two small yellow envelopes. One that will be used to refer everything when we have voted (no need to free is to practice).

Enveloppe
And another yellow envelope, while symbolic and moving, which is the real thing envelope to vote, in which it glides his ballot (voting, because your notes from the first quarter of Sixth interest actually little to no parental authority, it must be said).

Enveloppe aussi
You get on top of that leaf (yellow, again!) To sign to certify that it 'really me and not my brother or my enemy who has voted, or that it's me with the help another person who vote because I could not do it alone. And another instruction sheet, which resembles a manual for an electronic device, with nice colors, and explains that he must put the ballot in the blue envelope and the envelope in blue red envelope . Except that no bowl, the two envelopes are yellow.

Instructions
Someone will probably forget to update the instruction sheet from the last vote. No bowl.

And that famous newsletter, looks like he?

All entries are exactly the same format and presented in a (big) book whose pages may be detached to select the newsletter you want. Each list is entitled to a long page, and coverage of the book recalls how one can vote.

Instructions encore
And that's where it gets fun. I try to summarize the principle. This is

elect 60 members of the council , and each voter has 60 votes . Yes, 60. We can give all its votes to a list, or distribute between members of different lists. If so, you can either drag multiple lists in the envelope and cross out the names people for whom we do not want to vote, or not drag a form and add the names of other people who you want to vote. Jusuqe it is not unlike what happens in villages or small towns in France.

But that's not all. We do not have to choose 60 people to whom we want to give them 60 votes. It can also distribute the votes otherwise, and give each candidate 1, 2 or 3 votes by placing a cross or a 1, 2 or 3 in the box next to each name. We have the right to give less than 60 votes in total, but not allowed to give more than 60.

What promises sessions counting absolutely fascinating ...

I'm not going to show you all the lists because it is a bit long, but I give you the list anyway ...

  • CDU, the conservative majority now,
  • SPD, the Social Democrats in second position (the colors are a little French because both like to come in red actually)
  • Die Grünen short, the greens, 3rd and strong growth in 2004, and this time that he will-I-am-on-demand ...
  • Freie Wahler, voters free! People who came together on a list without being party members. They are quite important in Baden-Wuerttemberg and Bavaria
  • FDP, the liberal
  • Die Republikaner , even the very conservative right-wing extremists,
  • Die Linke, the very left,
  • An independent group Stuttgart Ökologisch Sozial ,
  • a list that has only 26 members but a funny name: Allianz Graue Panther und Freunde , gray panthers and their friends!
  • Weltaktion , a list that matters ... one and only one member.
I'm not going to show you all because I did not make it either, but for your culture and your voulagez curiosity (I hear you trépigner ...), here is the list SPD:

Liste SPD
Note well the free space below to add names of other lists, and box to the right of each name to set the number of votes.

As you can see, the vote is very personal, since one can really choose from the list that will be voices who will not. And the discussions that we have in the office, it seems that people do not hesitate to select carefully the one who has one, two or three votes, and those who will not. By what criteria? And especially in a big city, how do you put a head on all these names? That's what I'll try to show you ... but in a subsequent message, because it starts to get long.

Virtue Theoristson Abortion

I wanted to be a fashion victim arty

I'll tell you soon lots of exciting things on the municipal elections in Germany, and postal voting. I ensures it will be really interesting. But for now I offer it much lighter and much less interesting. It is also ...

Liberation, the French newspaper well known, is an advertising campaign (or something like that) and we proposed (or proposed to us recently), we men, to discover what tribe we belong. To learn it, just go on a special page and choose the door that you prefer. Behind each door, a portrait of the typical member of the tribe by a person who has a job that does not exist (such as "creative director", "gallery owner "Or" communications consulting "(not advisor or consultant but board), a selection of clothing, cosmetics, various objects and places, almost exclusively in Paris of elsewhere.

Des portes
good look at the different clothes, accessories and recommended, I was sorry to discover that I am rather geeko -sports ... I, who dreamed of being a victim fahsion arty (but with a door neo-conservative, or arty if the rest of the building that goes with it), it will for another time.

Geeko-sports ... and not very rich as well because my reaction on seeing most of the stuff offered price was something like "oh well yes of course of course ... "However much I tried ... The website is made by the magazine BuyBuy, which describes itself as "the magazine of luxury and trends. "It was thus prevented. Too bad, I liked the Puma sneaker geek by Alexander McQueen. 250 euros but it is expensive sneakers anyway. Particularly in fact they have blue soles pretty ugly that I had not seen at first glance.

Des baskets
And then spend a lot of money on shoes is very bad. It says the Figaro. Yes, yes. In an article entitled Money does not buy happiness . Well actually they do not say this, but they talk about the latest trends in film and we learn that, well brace yourself because the sentence is enough extra ...

Amid financial crisis, emerging filmmakers now
characters who find the meaning of life beyond wealth.

Notice the "now" ... Because it is well known, so far, the movies, all the characters presented by all the filmmakers could not find the meaning of their existence in that wealth. We can not imagine a single instance cons.

Oh by the way, the image with the door slightly above reminds me of the famous riddle with three doors ... I've already annoyed with? I do not know ...

This Sunday, (re) visiting the State Gallery in Stuttgart, I found myself facing a very disturbing picture. I do not know if, like me, you always struggle to remember which is which is which Manet Monet is . I do. Edward and Claude, Claude and Edward, I mix. I thought the museum with a room devoted to French Impressionists, help me clear up the confusion.

Not at all.

Because it is a painting by Manet exposed Stuttgart, which is pretty terrible. Well, in truth it is not so memorable as that, especially if seen in the reproduction of not great quality I found in the online catalog museum.

It shows Monet painting. And his wife, Camille, next. You'll notice that so Camille has a face vaguely recognizable as Monet exists only by his beard ... But whatever. What is really disturbing is that we are facing a representative picture of Manet Monet painting. Manet painted Monet painting. It does not tell us what Monet painting. painted ... I guess it was Manet painting being painted. Manet Monet painting painting Manet painting etc.. is something that program well with a recursive function ... Raymond Devos or a keystroke away.

And it makes me want to copy here a reproduction of the Triple Self-Portrait by Norman Rockwell, I find it quite appropriate, although the picture is not exposed to the state gallery, but Norman Rockwell Musuem in Stockbridge, m ' learns a quick search.

I conclude by saying that if you read the title of this message as a sign of my future conversion to Islam, you're wrong, I have no such project.

The NATO summit in Strasbourg is finished, it was an opportunity to destroy the old border post near the Rhine bridge at little cost, this is great, we just do not know sure what to do. So thank you for hiding rioters among the demonstrators.

Poste frontière
Thank you to move to New York Times and Getty Images for photo.

It was also the opportunity to advertise for Strasbourg, with beautiful photos of official ceremonies at first. This fills me with joy is that if I fail in computing, I can always become the official photographer of NATO or the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Let me explain ...

On the site of NATO, we can download this beautiful wallpaper of the official summit. Yes, yes. Here, by choosing the month of April.

Fond d'écran Otan

It is beautiful, wallpaper, huh? I am pleased to learn that April 26, 2005, I made the same photo. Perfectly. I would even say that I prefer my version, the cloudy sky is much more evocative.

Fond d'écran Maxou
Frankly, I do not understand why people Nato I have not yet called to hire me ...

continue with the official photos. Those of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, now that you can find on ... Flickr. Yes, yes, in the gallery "Diplomacy France. Bernard Kouchner had probably need to save ... I draw your attention to a photo can be found here .

Lampadaire officiel
Again, the official photographers are not the first to have had the idea to insist on lampposts Modern Garden on both sides. Also on 26 April 2005, I was indeed the next shot ...

Lampadaire Maxou
course, I failed to have Barack Obama, Angela Merkel, a person I wanted to do anyway and not photograph a person I do not recognize as part ... Probably because they were not there ... But the lamppost, he, I got it. He, or one that resembles him, whatever.

much for the official pictures of the summit, which will have been a great advertisement for Strasbourg and Western democracy. I leave you with one last photo, stolen from the AFP, which I really like ... Occasionally I'll do the same, without the police ...

Avenue de la Paix
Fun way to summarize a NATO summit, do not you think?

How Many Amps, Moped Battery

Sit upright

It's not going at all at the Stuttgart Opera ... The first Lohengrin, which takes place tonight and that I will not go, will take place in the absence of the director. Worse, the poster states that the setting is " according Stanislas Nordey," and not " of Stanislas Nordey. "(Because this is Mr. Stanislas Nordey it matter, a French apparently known.)

The World even made an article . The journalist does not mince words: " at the Stuttgart Opera, there is consternation. The director who participated in the first few days, you can imagine the drama. What did it really happen?

It's pretty simple, and a classic opera, I think. Conflict, as I say, thank you without a war between the director and conductor Manfred Honeck. Who were both incompatible visions of the Wagner opera. Visions are so different that we came to clash. Stanislas Nordey says: "This gentleman [conductor] wanted the choir sings and gets up when he sits down when not singing. Artistically speaking, this is nonsense. "C'mon! One measure of the seriousness of the thing, and one can imagine the director returning home at night, explaining to his friends on the phone, "No but you can imagine, the choir sings and when he gets up then sits ! "One can imagine the same Mr. Honeck explaining his relatives:" The choir should sing sit, or stay the whole time standing, but this is ridiculous! And one can imagine the reaction of friends, shared the desire to tell the artist that sometimes he just kidding when and even the desire to stay even a little solidarity with the artist in question.

Lohengrin
Nordey After leaving, I do not know what was finally chosen for the choir. Besides, if you look at the picture presented on the site of the opera, it is not known torp if people are sitting or standing, you can not even see their legs ... It was well worth it to make a drama.

Everything else, small desktop personal story that I do not hesitate to tell you. For two weeks, I tutor. Co-tutor to be exact. But this week, the other guardian was gone and I found myself alone with the intern. Who had the job for two weeks, so nothing too serious (it's not like I really needed to look after him, find him something useful to do). But still. I wanted to look serious and pretend to be interested in the evolution of the course (well here I add, the subject really interests me). Wednesday, I'll find the intern (who has one or two years older than me, but whatever) in his office and asks if everything goes well, it has something to do, if they have questions if he needs help. Are discussed for five minutes or ten I do not know. And in the end, it is that I said: " If you still need help, feel free to ask me. "It was a tad annoying. I do not know if I have to participate in the evaluation of the course, but if that is the case, I can already tell you that this unfortunate trainee more qualified than me will not receive full credit. And we'll see who's the leader , to paraphrase our President.

Doubling On Birth Control

A child at a time

Today I received a very nice message, commenting on this little phrase that closes each of my emails: "Changing the world one child at a time":

I am a mother of two girls , then I will do my best, one child at a time. Not to mention the child buried in the mother that I am.

For the sudden awareness of the child there, buried deep within me in those few words that I post every day though, because no one never recovers from his childhood, thank you ...

Pokemon Diamond Mac Emulator

CeBIT

Cuckoo

Thursday I was at CeBIT . I was sure everyone knew the biggest exhibition devoted to information technology and communication in the world, but apparently not, so I am obliged to say what it is. Oh hey, I just do ... It is a show that takes place once a year, the first week of March at Hanover in the huge exhibition of the city (which hosted the World Expo in 2000, and which can still be a few remains).

What was I doing at CeBIT, you ask? But I worked, obviously. I have a job very interesting ...

CeBIT
Hanover is not right next to Stuttgart, and to be able to travel in the day, no choice but to fly. And it must be taken early enough to go if you want to get somewhere near the exhibition opens at 9am ... Takeoff at 7:25 of Stuttgart, that means around 6:45 am at the airport, that means rising to 5:15 if you want to be quiet. Hey ben it's very early, I assure you. So early as 7-10 of France Inter has not started yet ... Logic. Fortunately for me, at 5am, Europe is still a listenable ... (Someday I'll explain how radio listen to any time between 5am and 10am.)

But French radio, it's nice, it must not forget that I am in Germany. Besides, we can not forget too long ... I take the S-Bahn 6:25, and bam, checking tickets! You've seen controllers in transit at 6:25 am in France, you? I already checked on Sunday evening at 22h, in Stuttgart, one more thing that would not happen on the other side of the Rhine ...

Arrive at the airport of Hanover, first finding is a major airport. Two tracks, full of terminals ... terminals? Second finding in amount in the S-Bahn: trains are prettier in Hanover, the acoudoirs are wooden even in second class, the light panels indicate the time and date in addition to the station Next, there are toilets and ... Exciting, I know. Add to this the fact that the journey between the airport and the fairground, it misses a Straßburgerplatz , you will understand qu'Hanovre is a city that has left me a good impression.

And here is that we arrive at CeBIT, this thing which I was told it was great. I had lied, it's not very big, it énooorme. So great that there are bus routes within the exhibition, to go from one end to another ... It is also not very practical if you want to see a side of conférencde the north entrance of 15h to 15h30 and then be at 15:45 at the southern entrance ... bah you can not, you have more like 25 or 30 minutes to cross ...

Yes well, it's great, it was understood. But there does what, at CeBIT?

We see lots of funny stuff! We give business cards left to right (even if it is useless). We attended lectures on topics terrible as the Introduction of technologies related to Internet business in participatory or how to make money with free software? (speaker's response: we can not do), and tested lots of products more or less new but still amazing.

The big fashion of the moment, is all that is touch. No matter what you have as a screen, whether on a phone portbale on a desktop with Windows 7 at Microsoft booth television giant Hyundai, or elsewhere, you must have a touch screen, or you're a big void that has understood nothing. And not touch any creature like terminals SNCF tickets, eh ... Multipoint Touch to be able to resize pictures with two fingers or zooming in Google Maps (95% demonstrations are done with mapping applications is pretty funny).

We hear a lot about French in the aisles ... Obviously the main languages are English and German, but I feel like French visitors (or French) are particularly numerous. By cons, listed exhibitors, it's less the case ... Even if one finds here and there a small company that presents Auvergne unknown something. The advantage is that the exhibitors are happy to speak French, and then let you pass into Reseller area, which has the air of nothing, and is actually not much, but it's a lounge area in theory reserved for dealers and journalists and in which I could not go like that. It allowed me to play with touch screen giant Hyundai.

But what was most fun was probably a screen with a system of eye tracking . The demonstration was quite striking: a text is displayed, you read it, and when you get to the bottom of the screen, bang, it scrolls automatically stack at the right speed ... Because the monitor detects the position of your eyes and then adapts the scrolling text to your speed electure. It also works to navigate its CD covers with Cover Flow so ... Watching a slightly to the left, and pocjettes march to the left, you look to the right, they pass to the right. What for? Primary research (analyze user behavior against a GUI, for example) and to make computers accessible to people who can not use keyboard or mouse (you can write a text with nothing but his eyes, Looking for the right buttons on a keyboard displayed on the screen). It works surprisingly well ... and it cost, oh, almost nothing ... approximately EUR 22 000 .

Another funny thing, the Microsoft booth this time: a video projection that is controlled ... Finger! But not to the eye. You're standing in front of a wall on which is projected ... a map, like so. You stretch your arm, point the finger to the left: the map slides to the left. Point to the right, the map shifts to the right. To click should close the tender point and then the thumb is a bit more complicated ... But one begins easily enough for Tom Cruise in Minority Report , enough to make me happy.

If we find it quite easily interesting demonstrations, it is a little harder to find a mirror. There are food stalls everywhere, and even full of real restaurants (not that expensive), and when you do Look no ice (morning), you see everywhere. When you are looking for (the afternoon), you have a hard time finding a stand, and when you find it closed. I put more than an hour to find my ice was terrible. In searching I was able to fall on fun things, such as Deutsche Telekom very big stand, or hall reserved for gamers , where they delivered the award for best player I do not know what a collection young people probably nice, but terribly caricatures. All this in a warm black and blue, sponsored by Intel.

The search for ice is also an opportunity visit the remains of Expo 2000 including a very nice wooden roof, which recrouvre several small halls today, and under which was at that time a Portuguese restaurant (Madeira for êgtre exact) very good I must say .

If I saw this wooden roof, however I have not seen the Governator, er pardon Governor Schwarzenegger, who came to inaugurate the show earlier this week (and ended his speech by saying " I'll be back! "), there were only pictures and banners including one that said" Haste schon vista, baby? "(I translate for my ignorant public by a" you already have Vista, baby? ") Which is a comedy special.

I was sure to bring plenty of memory sticks and pen ... But no, it's a crisis! Result I had only allowed sweets (including Gummihandys Samsung mobile phones finally small blue gelatin, quite funny) and the papers piled on my desk now.

The return trip was fun. Already because we nearly missed our S-Bahn and then at the same time our plane, all because:
- we forgot that the S-Bahn station is "beside" the exhibition is actually AA 30 minutes foot
- Maxou (yes that's me) wanted to see the Microsoft booth that had eluded him so far, and suddenly instead of having the margin we did not have too (playing Tom Cruise it takes time).

The Landing in Stuttgart was fun too ... It was snowing outside, and if you have never tested, I can tell you that the plane in the snow is super fun. The flakes in the night and the lights of lighthouses form a kind of white streaks all around the plane, it feels like Star Wars charging headlong at two or three times the speed of light.

Star Wars
Back on campus, was calm and white (of snow in March! is crazy!), I was pretty tired. I am always elsewhere, so I'll leave you, but I promise to tell you other exciting things soon. Yes, yes, I promise.
